PUBLIC SAFETY

RCA Members are involved in every aspect of the wireless industry. Public safety is an important segment.  24 x 7 x 365, around the world, first responders from law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services, are dispatched and communicate. On many different frequency bands from 30 MHz up to 800 MHz, various wireless technologies are employed to ensure the safety of both first responders and the public they serve.

The future for public safety wireless includes not only the traditional push-to-talk voice communications, but also broadband data communications using 4G and 5G technologies. In the U.S. a nationwide broadband network for public safety using LTE technology has been set up called FirstNet, and similar systems are being established world-wide to provide first responders instant access to databases of important information, on scene video, and other enhancements not available before.

Important secondary responders in the utilities, transportation, government support, and non-government organizations (NGOs) also depend on wireless communications, using VHF & UHF voice radios, satellites, WiFi links, and high frequency (HF) networks.
